Access Road to Glenury estate

Reported via desktop in the Surface Issue category anonymously at 10:13, Monday 15 June 2026

Sent to Aberdeenshire Council less than a minute later. Council ref: 969846.

I am writing to report the poor condition of the Glenury Road which comes from the B979 stonehaven access road into the glenury estate, between the potholes and previous road repairs from when the AWPR work lorries used the access road are now falling into a state of disrepair. I would kindly urge Aberdeenshire council roads dept to either carry out interim road repairs to fill the holes or to carry out full road repair before cars become damaged as a result of the road condition Cars are now having to swap lanes to avoid the holes and damaged sections, this then brings the potential problem of road collision hazards and congestion during high usage periods. Originally back in 2015 - 2019 when the AWPR was under construction and the new junction was built for joining and leaving the A90 the road cleaning lorries and associated vehicles were using the Glenury Access road for turning and taking on water. During that period the road was damaged but subsequently repaired but now the repairs themselves have also become damaged. In addition to the Glenury road poor state the B979 road from the traffic lights at the new junction is also becoming damaged which i can only assume would be from the increase in volume of cars now using the road. From the roads act 1984 Scotland, I feel Aberdeenshire Council and supporting roads authorities would have a problem in providing sufficient evidence that reasonable road maintenance has been carried out in the last 7 years potentially making them vulnerable to claims from car owners for damage to cars sustained by the condition of the road. Originally before the AWPR was built the B979 only had to handle traffic coming into Stonehaven from the south A90/92 and traffic leaving Stonehaven heading North but since then the road now handles all North and South bound traffic both north and south. During the AWPR build the B979 road was also dug up for the utilities tie for the New Mains of Ury Est which has not helped.
