Surface water runoff from council road affecting private property – Udny
Reported via desktop in the Road Flooding or Standing Water category anonymously at 11:26, Tuesday 27 January 2026
Sent to Aberdeenshire Council less than a minute later. Council ref: 948193.
Surface water runoff from the public road next to my property. The road beside the property sits on a hill / slope, and during periods of rain wether it’s light, heavy or prolonged rainfall, a significant amount of water runs down the road and discharges toward my driveway and the side of my home. As there is limited drainage along this stretch of road, water appears to collect and flow onto my property rather than being adequately managed within the road. The amount of water that comes from the road to my property can cause my property to have issues because there isn’t enough drainage on the road side. I am concerned that this ongoing runoff could continue to cause issues at the base of my property, and I would be grateful if this could be assessed by the appropriate team to determine whether any improvements or maintenance to the road drainage can be required. I appreciate that private drainage within my property boundary is my responsibility, however given that the source of the water appears to be from the public road, I wanted to ask whether the council could inspect the area and advise if any remedial action could take place on the highway side. Along with this email, I have attached photos of the water running from the road, it runs mostly to my property ( although hard to notice in the photos). Please let me know if you require any more photos or further information.

We’re currently developing our approach to displaying priorities and target completion times to keep residents better informed. In the meantime, we’ll continue to assess the level of risk and allocate resources based on urgency, location, and the availability of repair teams.
This defect has been added to our works programme and will be scheduled accordingly.
- To be Completed by: 30/01/2027
- Road category: 4A
- Road speed limit: 60
The date shown above represents the latest target for completion based on our current programme of works. This may be brought forward where resources, operational priorities, or coordination with other activities allow. Defects assessed as posing a higher risk are prioritised for earlier repair whenever possible.
Thank you for your patience while we carry out this work.

Hello,
I am following up regarding the above report, currently marked as Planned.
Surface water runoff from the road continues to collect at the frontage / driveway area during rainfall and remains an ongoing concern.
I would be grateful if you could advise whether the site has been inspected yet, what works are currently intended, and whether there is any updated indication of timescales.
I appreciate resources are prioritised by urgency, and I would be thankful for any update you are able to provide for this road/ drainage issue.

Hi there,
I just wanted to follow up on the update from last week regarding my enquiry being passed to the local Roads Team.
I was wondering if there has been any progress since, or if the assessment has now taken place?
If the assessment hasn’t taken place, when is this due to be done?
I would be grateful for any update you are able to provide.
Many thanks for your help.

I believe the report has been marked as “fixed” in error after I updated the case online. I’ve asked some questions on there that I would like answered please as unfortunately, the surface water issue is still ongoing and has not been resolved. As I am no longer able to add further updates through the FixAberdeenshire system, I would be grateful if you could please reopen the existing report. I’m wondering when this could be done? The issue of surface water runoff from the road collecting at the property remains unchanged. Thank you for your assistance, and please let me know if you require any further information. In the meantime are there any numbers I can call to try and get some quicker updates etc? Thankyou

Hi there,
I am just following up regarding this report, which is currently marked as “Investigating”.
Has there been any update regarding the current position of the case, including whether any assessment has now taken place and whether there is any indication of the likely next steps or timescales for works?
Surface water runoff from the road continues to collect at the property during rainfall.
If any site assessment has not yet been carried out, I would be more than happy to arrange to be at the property to discuss the issue further.
Thankyou for your time.
