Sent to Aberdeenshire Council less than a minute later. Council ref: 941290.
I am writing on behalf of OaKley ASN, a registered Scottish charity supporting children and young people with Additional Support Needs (ASN) and their families across Aberdeenshire. In January 2026 we are opening a new, purpose-built community facility just outside Stonehaven. The site is accessed via the B979 (Netherley Road), shortly after exiting the AWPR. Due to the rural setting and limited visual cues, many visitors struggle to locate us, particularly at the transition from the AWPR roundabout onto the B979 and potentially at the entrance to our site itself. We would like to request consideration for directional (non-advertising) road signage at the start of the B979, to improve road safety and accessibility for families, including those with disabilities. Location details • Centre address: Oakley ASN, Stonehaven North, Aberdeenshire, AB39 3QE • Accessed via the B979 (Netherley Road) • What3Words: abruptly.enveloped.slugs The centre’s postcode spans areas on both sides of the AWPR, which frequently causes confusion and means satellite navigation systems are unreliable and often direct visitors incorrectly.• Visitors include families, transport providers, therapists and professionalsProposed signage • Directional signage only (no logos or promotional content) • Neutral wording • Suggested wording: “OaKley ASN Centre ?”Rationale • Reduces hesitation and unsafe stopping or turning • Improves accessibility for disabled children and families • Supports safe navigation for unfamiliar visitors • Reflects the charitable and community nature of the facilityWe understand that Aberdeenshire Council manages signage on the B979 and would be grateful for guidance on:Whether signage at this location would be considered appropriate Any preferred positioning or restrictions The application process, costs and next step We are happy to provide site plans, photographs, or attend a site meeting if required. Thank you for your time and consideration.
