Sent to Aberdeenshire Council less than a minute later. Council ref: 931607.
Dear Roads Team, I am writing to report vehicle damage caused by a pothole and to request information on how to submit a formal claim for compensation. At approximately 9:50 am on 3 November 2025, my vehicle struck a pothole on Lumphanan Main Road, along from the golf club heading from Torphins towards Aboyne. The impact caused my front passenger tyre to burst. I understand that this pothole was logged on your system on 24 September 2025, with the last update recorded on 2 October 2025. From what I can gather, the pothole has been present for at least a month prior to being logged and remains unrepaired. Given this history, the Council had a reasonable amount of time to address the defect and may therefore be liable for the damage caused to my vehicle. Please could you: 1.Confirm that this section of road falls under Aberdeenshire Council’s maintenance responsibility. 2.Provide me with the claim form or details of your vehicle damage claims procedure. 3.Confirm the defect reference number for this pothole and whether any inspections or repairs have been carried out since 2 October. I have taken photographs of the pothole and the resulting damage to my vehicle, which I can provide upon request. I will also forward the garage invoice for the replacement tyre once available. I look forward to your response and to receiving the necessary claim documentation. Kind regards,
