Recent road/verge works have backfilled drainage ditch and culvert
Sent to Aberdeenshire Council less than a minute later. Council ref: 929760.
Roadworks U26m Tillyneckle to B993 at Waulkmill near Torphins has resulted in the already overgrown drainage ditch being further backfilled resulting in blockage of road drainage ditch, in addition culvert is now blocked. This further exasperates the ongoing problem with road and property flooding at the Woolmill Cottage entrance, as identified on many occasions previously. Road water from the Waulkmill Farm junction has no off road drainage and just accumulates at the Woolmill Cottage. All field drains are overgrown and the river junction is choked. The verge is now unstable and the heavy duty vehicles such as tractors and trucks have already started to degrade the unstable verge. I expect that extensive flooding will occur during the next few days as the next storm passes through.

I now suspect from the section of broken pipe lying on the verge that the contractor could have well broken through into the culvert.

We’ve had a look at the issue and we have now passed your enquiry to our local Roads Team to assess what can be done to resolve the matter. We’ll let you know when that assessment has taken place.

We’ve completed our inspection and can confirm that the issue you reported relates to infrastructure owned or maintained by a utility company or other statutory undertaker.
Where possible, we will notify the responsible organisation of the defect. However, responsibility for inspecting, maintaining and repairing utility apparatus rests with the asset owner. If you require further information or updates, please contact the relevant utility provider directly.
Please note that utility covers, access points, cabinets, poles and associated equipment remain the responsibility of the utility provider, and the Roads Authority does not carry out repairs to these assets. We do, however, maintain the surrounding road and footway surfaces.
