Sent to Aberdeenshire Council less than a minute later. Council ref: 928325.
This might not be a roads issue if not could you forward to the correct dept. Back in 1995 Grampian Regional Council infilled a burn which ran along the north and east boundarys of our site. This was due to the roadside bank becoming unstable and falling into the burn. As part of this they installed a silt trap where the burn changed direction. The road gullys discharged into the burn and these after it had been infilled into the silt trap. Earlier today we had a contractor on site and they were checking various items prior to undertaking some excavation works and opened up the silt trap. I think this is the first time it's been opened since it was installed some thirty years ago. It's well silted up. You might wish to consider removing the silt. I've attached a photo of the inside of the silt trap. The burn has been diverted to the south of our site by the developer currently developing the site for housing. The pipe which we're talking about currently only serves the road gullys. Obviously you may wish to consider getting the silt trap cleaned out. I've attached a photo showing the inside of the silt trap. The road gully inlets are at high level. The old burn inlet pipe is a five o'clock and the outlet pipe at twelve o'clock. The sediment in the bottom is solid. The pipework eventually discharges into the drainage system serving the industrial estate on the opposite side of the road via a stone culvert. No doubt from the photos and like everybody else at the time you'll be wondering why the Council ever thought that a 150 diameter pipe would cope with the volume of water in the burn and the road gullys. It was a mystery - Council value engineering not doubt!! Although it took quite a while and after numerous floods the Council eventually put forward a proposal to resolve the issue and installed a 450 diameter pipe on a different line.
