Footway 40% covered in thick vegetation
Reported via desktop in the Pothole category anonymously at 15:37, Friday 19 September 2025
Sent to Aberdeenshire Council less than a minute later. Council ref: 925938.
The majority of the footway is obstructed by vegetation making it unsafe for pedestrians to use.
This public footway covers several 100 metres directly before the entrance to Lathallan School.
The vegetation in this area has now encroached so far across the pavement that it significantly reduces the available space for pedestrians. This makes it difficult, and in some cases very challenging for people with pushchairs, mobility aids, or visual impairments to pass safely.
Aberdeenshire Council’s own published guidance on “Vegetation overhanging or causing obstruction on roads” clearly states:
“The full footway width must be available to pedestrians, up to a height of 2.5 metres above footway level.”
Furthermore, under the Roads (Scotland) Act 1984, the Council has a statutory responsibility to ensure that public footways are kept safe and unobstructed. This duty includes encroaching vegetation where it poses a hazard or restricts access.
Given the current state of the footway, I respectfully request that the Council, inspect the location as soon as possible, and take action directly where necessary.
Thank you for your attention to this matter and for your ongoing work to keep Aberdeenshire’s roads and pavements safe for all residents.

We’re currently developing our approach to displaying priorities and target completion times to keep residents better informed. In the meantime, we’ll continue to assess the level of risk and allocate resources based on urgency, location, and the availability of repair teams.
This defect has been added to our works programme and will be scheduled accordingly.
Thank you for your patience while we carry out this work.
