Enormous tree split at trunk, about to come down.

Reported via desktop in the Trees Fallen on Road category anonymously at 08:27, Tue 5 August 2025

Sent to Aberdeenshire Council less than a minute later. Council ref: 919462.

During storm Floris, an enormous, double trunked lime tree in our garden, split through the base of the trunks. We have managed to secure the tree from falling temporarily with the services of a tree surgeon. However the tree needs to be felled today, as it is extremely dangerous. The felling has been arranged. We have put bollards up to stop traffic coming on to the road, between the church and football pitch, and have also put up heras fencing with danger signs nearer the tree. The road needs to be closed properly to ensure people do not try to come past while the tree is unsafe and the work is being done.

  • We’ve completed our inspection and were unable to log a defect requiring action by the Roads Service.

In many cases, this means the issue may relate to land or infrastructure that is not maintained by our service. This could include areas looked after by another part of the Council — such as housing, landscape, or waste services — or by a third party, such as a utility provider, housing association, developer, or private landowner.

If the situation changes, or if you’re able to provide additional information, you’re welcome to get back in touch. However, if the issue continues to fall outside the Roads Service’s responsibility, it will remain with the appropriate service or owner to address.

Thank you for bringing this to our attention
