Verge Cutting problem

Reported in the Verge Cutting category by Aberdeenshire Council at 16:37, Mon 7 July 2025

Council ref: 916124.

The verges at the Central Schools bridge and the Mill of Noth bridge outside Rhynie, both on the A97, have been cut but need to be cut further back as rosebay willow herb and other vegetation that is still growing is still obscuring vehicles (other than high vans and lorries) approaching these bridges until they are virtually on the bridges and then vehicles from the opposite direction have to suddenly brake hard with the potential for an accident. As already said, visibility will only get worse as the tall vegetation continues to grow.

  • We have an update - we’ve completed our assessment of the defect logged with us and evaluated the risk it poses.

This risk level determines our target response time which are then are used to prioritise and programme work.

At this stage, other defects posing a higher risk are taking priority and we are not planning to carry out any repair work here at this time. The defect location has been recorded and will be assessed again during the next planned inspection for any further deterioration.
