Pothole problem

Reported in the Pothole category by Aberdeenshire Council at 09:53, Tue 27 May 2025

Council ref: 910245.

On Thursday 22nd May my wife was travelling from Newtohill to Stonehaven when she was caught up in the queue of traffic between Newtonhill and Bridge of Muchalls following an accident there. As a result the south bound traffic on the A92 was closed by the police in attendance and and all those vehicles within this stretch were directed by the police onto the north bound carriageway and told to take the minor roads and head across to the Netherley road which my wife did.She ended up on the minor road which took her to Fishermyre where this minor road ends with the junction at Netherley Road.

Unfortunately at Fishermyre just after this minor road passes underneath the A90 bypass this minor road had crumbled at the edges overtime and an elongated pothole had developed. The car went into this pothole and as a result the front passenger tyre was slashed. Luckily for my wife this accident happend next to the scrapyard on this road and when she went and knocked on the owner's door she told him what had happened so he very kindly asked her to drive the short distance into his yard where he kindly changed the wheel and only asked for the wheel to be returned when a replacement tyre had been fitted. As you can imagine the car was not driveable until the wheel had been changed. She was not driving fast when this happened because this minor road was busy as a result of the accident on the A92.

I duly went to Kwik-Fit the following day to have the new tyre fitted. I explained what had happened and following inspection by him there was a narrow tear on the rear passenger tyre and as this was on the side wall of the tyre would have to be replaced as well as it would fail an MOT and deemed unsafe. Also the tracking rods on the car were now out of line and needed to be levelled. This was all caused as a result of the crumbled edge of the minor road and the pot hole formed. The total cost to me was £295.

I wish to claim this amount from the Aberdeenshire Council and am pr
